Welcome to my freemium newsletter by me, King Williams. A documentary filmmaker, journalist, podcast host and author based in Atlanta, Georgia.Â
This is a newsletter covering the hidden connections of everything in the world of Atlanta from urbanism, to politics and entertainment.
On Tuesday, I’m launching a limited-run series for the month of April called ‘Ask A Journalist’, where each week, I’m talking to a fellow journalists on a host of topics and live audience questions.
My first live chat will be this Tuesday, March 31st at 7pm via Instagram Live via The Neighborhood Watch (@watchthehood) Instagram account. My first live chat will be with two of my Atlanta journalism peers, investigative journalist Max Blau and entertainment and culture reporter Jewel Wicker!

Max Blau is arguably one of the best investigative journalists in America and has been telling the difficult stories emanating out of Georgia for over a decade.
Max’s stories have focused on the Georgia connection to national topics such as automotive manufacturer GM’s faulty ignition switches that led to a national recall of 30 million vehicles, Stacey Abrams challenges to voter suppression in Georgia, and how drug companies are trying to influence judges to allow for more pharmaceuticals in prisons.
Max has been featured in The New York Times, The Guardian, Politico, The Atlantic, The Washington Post and CNN as well as local publications such as Saporta Report, The AJC and Atlanta Magazine. Max is one of the many brave local journalists on the front lines of the coronavirus’s impact on the state of Georgia and will be speaking on what he’s found so far.

Jewel Wicker is an Atlanta-based entertainment journalist and culture reporter who’s written for The Hollywood Reporter, Billboard, The Wall Street Journal, VICE, Buzzfeed, Pitchfork and The AJC. Jewel is one of the few ‘of and for the culture’ journalists in Atlanta who is telling the authentic stories of Atlanta’s entertainment and cultural outputs.
Her work on the role of club life in developing Atlanta’s music scene is worth a read, as well as her article with Atlanta teen-turned-pro Coco Gauff for Teen Vogue or her deeply personal article on the lack of empathy for Black families affected by drug use compared to the response to those effected by the opioid epidemic, is worth your time to read.
Jewel is also the first journalist to curate a physical pop-exhibition in New York City and a national musical/podcast playlist on the impact of Black music for Spotify. The campaign, Phenomenal Black Music is apart of a year-round campaign of the company to highlight the impact of Black music.
Tune in on Tuesday, at 7pm and check us out! We’re gonna talk about a bunch of things from pitching to how to spot fake news, coronavirus, Spotify and whatever questions you may have.
I suggest following both on Twitter, https://twitter.com/maxblau, and https://twitter.com/jewelwickershow.
